Fire extinguisher inspection cost: how much you pay and when a new one pays off

CThe price of a fire extinguisher inspection varies depending on the supplier, region and number of units at one address. The figures below are indicative: the specific offer will always be confirmed by the inspection technician with whom you agree on a date.

Before we look at specific figures, it is worth clarifying what you are paying for: a check of operational readiness, a periodic test, or both. The price is calculated separately for each task, not as a flat rate for an "inspection" as such.

Operational check (annual)

The annual operational inspection will cost approximately Kč. 80 to 150 Kč per unit, typically when there are more units at one address. This is an inspection in accordance with Decree No. 246/2001 Coll. - for details on exactly what it includes and how often it is carried out, see our article Inspection of fire extinguishers: deadlines, procedure and who is authorised to carry them out .

Periodic test (pressure)

The periodic test, which includes a hydraulic pressure test of the vessel, is more demanding and will cost approximately Kč. from 200 to 400 Kč per unit, again depending on the type and size of the charge. It is carried out once every 3 years for water-based and foam appliances, and once every 5 years for other types. We explain the difference between these two procedures in the article. Inspection of fire extinguishers versus periodic testing .

What affects the final price

Apart from the type of service (check or periodic test), the main factor is the number of units at one address: the more units a technician checks at once, the lower the price per unit. Other factors include the region and availability of a service company nearby, the type and size of the unit's charge, and whether access to the unit requires only travel or also involves difficult access (high floor without a lift, locked technical rooms, etc.).

Delivery and packages for multiple units

To the price of each individual unit, the technician's travel cost is usually added, which varies depending on the region and distance from the nearest service centre. For properties with multiple units: typically SVJ or businesses. It pays to schedule a single appointment for the entire property: the technician will inspect all units at once and the travel cost will be apportioned among them, rather than being charged separately for each individual visit.

The same principle applies to portfolios of multiple buildings under single management, when service dates for several addresses are scheduled for a similar period, transport and technician time can be allocated more efficiently than if each building orders servicing independently and without coordination with the others.

Prices between individual suppliers may also vary depending on whether they have parts and refrigerants in stock or need to order them, and how far their nearest branch or warehouse is from you. Therefore, it pays to compare several offers at once rather than settling for the first one you receive.

Request an inspection technician

When does a new unit pay off instead of an inspection

With older and cheaper portable fire extinguishers, the cost of a periodic inspection, especially if it includes replacing certain parts, can approach the price of buying a new unit of the same type. It is therefore advisable to ask the technician during the inspection whether the test is still worthwhile or if it makes more sense to replace the extinguisher with a new one. The technician has an immediate overview of the cylinder's condition and what the specific inspection entails for that particular type, so they can provide advice on the spot without unnecessary waiting for another quote.

Whether you choose an inspection, a test, or a new device, the same rule applies: without a valid certificate, label and seal, the fire extinguisher is not considered demonstrably operational - we discuss this in detail in the introductory article Inspection of fire extinguishers: deadlines, procedure and who is authorised to carry them out .
