According to Act No. 133/1985 Coll. On fire protection Portable fire extinguishers are mandatory virtually everywhere a fire could occur. In practice, this concerns six main groups.
All legal entities. The minimum number and type are determined by Decree 246/2001 Coll., based on risk and the number of employees.
Individuals operating businesses, hairdressers, dental practices, shops, must have fire safety personnel available.
Owners' associations are required to have fire extinguishers in every building, corridors, cellars and boiler rooms. Typically 5-15 units per building.
Higher fire risk means more appliances. Kitchens require special types (Class F for grease, CO₂ for electrical fires).
The number of units depends on the area and type of goods. Electronics and chemicals require specific types of fire extinguishers.
High fire risk (fuels, oily rags, welding work). Mandatory foam, CO₂ and powder extinguishers.
Fine for insufficient fire extinguishers: until 10 000 Kč Pursuant to Section 158 of Act No. 133/1985 Coll., in the event of an accident, the insurance company reserves the right to refuse compensation for damages.
During a Fire Rescue Service inspection, the first question is "where is the fire safety logbook". Three types of documentation you must have ready.
During a fire brigade inspection, these documents are checked. Missing logbook or incomplete records lead to a shutdown of operations with no possibility of on-site remediation.
PThe chairman of the building's owners' association or the company operator is responsible for ensuring that every fire extinguisher has a current label. A standard residential building in Prague has 8-20 units (corridors, basement, boiler room), while a company with premises often has 50+. Dealing with them individually is foolish.

The appliance is deemed non-compliant. In the event of a fire, the insurance company reduces the payout by 50-100 %, and the fire service imposes a fine. Every appliance must have a current label: not only in standard rooms but also in utility rooms and archives.
